Catholic thumping the competition at the right time By Peter Clemenza staff writer for JolietCatholicFootball.com
Joliet Catholic wasted little time crushing Hales Franciscan Friday night in it's regular season final, 65-6.
JCA scored four touchdowns on it's first 13 plays in the first quarter which put the game away early. After scoring twice JCA held a lead of 13-0 when Hales responded with a 85 yard TD run by DeAndre Lindsey.
Any thought Hales may have had keeping the game close was misguided, as Catholic cruised to a 50-6 halftime lead.
Defensively Catholic limited Hales to 2 first downs for the game, and aside from Lindsey's run, Hales had 23 yards of total offense. Bobby Buchanan ran back an interception 55 yards for a TD.
Offensively, Brett Hettman had 44 yards on 7 carries, Ryan Quigley was 5 of 7 for 133 yards and 2TD's including a 55 yard strike to Bobby Wilkinson on the second play from scrimmage.
Late season sensation Ross Crampton had 139 yards on 11 carries, leaving him 25 yards short of 1,000 on the season. (All in the first half). It's a sure bet Crampton will be in the 1,000 yard club after round one of the playoffs. More importantly, he had four TD's including TD runs of 72, 5, & 9 yards. As well as a 24 yard TD pass from Quigley.
Junior quarterback Brad Bourg added TD runs of 10 and 6 yards in the second half.
